On behalf of this year’s committee of volunteers, we would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new families, as well as our returning athletes, parents and families to Ashmore Little Athletics for the 2017/2018 season. We hope you are as excited as we are about being a part of the Ashmore Little Athletics community. With the 2018 Commonwealth Games just around the corner it is sure to be a year filled with outstanding Track and Field achievement.
Last season proved to be extremely successful for our athletes, with many impressive personal best performances at both regional and state championships. With a total of 51 athletes qualifying for state championships we came away with 31 medals, which was an outstanding performance. A special congratulations to two of our U14 athletes, Emelia Surch (Multi-events) and Charlie Carroll (Triple Jump) for being selected for the 2017 Little Athletics National Camp to be held at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra this coming October. We wish them both well and look forward to seeing all our athletes in action this season.
This season we are lucky enough to have our club coaches Phoebe-Rose Turton and Jordan Vincent available to continuing coaching our athletes. Both are accredited coaches who have extensive experience working with children. Their dedication and commitment to running our Wednesday Club training sessions is greatly appreciated. Don’t forget training starts promptly at 4:00pm and runs until 5:30pm. For safety reasons athletes must sign-on at these sessions and parent assistance and supervision is requested.
Please remember we are all VOLUNTEERS and that our club simply would not operate without the dedication and hard-work of its members. The Little Athletics motto ‘Family Fun and Fitness’ highlights that Little athletics is a community activity involving the whole family on a weekly basis. A place where athletes are encouraged to improve their own performance, develop confidence and social skills in a supportive environment, all while having fun. We therefore request your assistance with helping set-up, run events and pack-away the equipment. ‘Many hands makes light work!’ If you have any questions or would like more information about what you can do to help please don’t hesitate to ask.
We wish you well for the coming season and look forward to seeing you all each Saturday.
